Japan Grand Prix

Dear Contestants, Teachers, Parents, Family Members, and Friends,
I welcome all of you to Japan Grand Prix International Ballet Competition 2023! As the worst of the pandemic has passed, this marks JGP-IBC's 21st year!

It seems as if it were only yesterday that we held the very first JGP, in Sapporo, originally with eight international judges and high hopes and expectations! It was almost immediately that JGP-IBC became one of the top, most respected ballet competitions in all of Japan, presenting so many talented young contestants across the years who have danced with notable ballet companies and dance organizations throughout the world ever since!

As everyone everywhere had been affected by the devastating pandemic, JGP-IBC took place online for two years with continued success. Last year's JGP-IBC, our 20th Anniversary, was held with a limited number of attending judges (the other judges joining virtually) and was equally successful. Returning to my beloved Japan after two years fully confirmed my deep appreciation and admiration for a place I consider "my second home!"

Our roster of judges continues to grow, representing prestigious dance companies, institutions, and schools throughout the world. JGP-IBC presents the very best of international dance in a welcoming atmosphere. As always, there will be many master classes offered during the entire run of the competition, taught by JGP's international judges.
